Day 2

Sunday June 1st, 2014
Lough an Cogair, Oughterard, Co. Galway

classic2

This is a large area of open mountain bisected North-South by a lake/river system.  The river is quite deep and approximately 3m wide so is uncrossable over most of it’s length.  Safe crossing points will be marked on the map.  There are many small lakes and ponds throughout the area.

classic2The western part of the map is of low steepness with a lot of contour and rock detail.  The eastern side is more steep with somewhat less contour detail.  The top of the hill is covered by a large number of thickets of various sizes.  Some of these are of young trees while others are of burnt.  These thickets are accurately marked on the map.

Runability is generally good but there are some sections where the sedge grass is quite long.  Courses will generally have less than 4% climb.

Crossing points for the river and fences will be marked on the map and are compulsory.
